If you’re a student with a passion for politics, find your path as you study and explore Washington, D.C. at GW.

As a student in the Semester in Washington Program you will learn how political decisions are made, how power is wielded and how government is run. This will be your career-defining experience and the moment when you decide to make a name for yourself in Washington, D.C.

Program participants will be enrolled at George Washington University for a 6-week summer session or a 10-week fall/spring semester.

Uniquely Immersive Program Experience

Study, Intern, Network & Explore D.C.

George Washington University’s Semester in Washington Program offers a uniquely well-rounded experience, combining traditional classroom learning with flexible internships and site visits to a variety of governmental institutions and organizations in the heart of Washington, D.C.

  • Study: The Semester in Washington program offers students a rigorous academic curriculum led by expert faculty members with a strong background in politics, campaigning and communications. New special topics course offerings include "The 2024 Campaign."
  • Intern: Spend your semester gaining real-world experience by interning for a political party, an advocacy organization, a consulting firm or a government agency.

  • Network: Program networking events play a pivotal role in enhancing the overall educational experience for students, providing them with unique opportunities to connect, learn and grow in the vibrant political landscape of Washington, D.C.

Graduates will emerge with a deep understanding of political systems and effective communication, preparing them for careers in politics, advocacy, journalism and beyond.
